ALAS is the Association of Latin American Students, which is affiliated to the International Students of Oregon State University (ISOSU).

Currently, ALAS embraces citizens from the following countries: Argentina, Belize, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Spain, Uruguay and Venezuela. However, we welcome anyone from any country to be enrolled and to share culture issues and traditions.

Members of the association meet every other week to discuss members' concerning issues as well as to plan cultural, sport and social activities inside and outside OSU.

Our Purpose

The purpose of ALAS is to promote the unity of its members around the common cultural values while seeking for the identification, understanding and respect of each country’s culture. Thereby, ALAS also contributes to the cultural richness of the Oregon State University, Corvallis and surrounding communities. ALAS seeks to support the following:

1) To promote a sense of community and cohesiveness amongst the Latin American students and general public.

2) To promote leadership in the committee and the members, in order to effectively succeed in the purpose of the Association.

3) To share the Latin American cultures with the members of OSU and the local community, in order to enrich knowledge and increase understanding of the Association member’s national heritage.

4) To serve as a communication link of relevant and important information between Oregon State University (OSU), International Students of OSU (ISOSU), and members.

5) To assist the new coming Latin American students in finding resources for academic, housing, social, career or other kind of needs that might arise during their arrival and stay at OSU.

6) To supply to the members and the community with an environment for social interaction.
