History

National History

Established only eight years ago, Delta Phi Omega Sorority, Inc. has become one of the fastest growing sororities today—over 350 Sisters, 28 chapters and colonies, and more than 25 affiliated schools. The South Asian-based sorority was born on December 6, 1998 at the University of Houston. Seventeen South Asian women envisioned a sisterhood that would bring women together, encourage community awareness, and to gain better understanding of others and oneself. Delta Phi Omega Sorority, Inc. was built on the resilient pillars of Sisterhood, Respect, Loyalty, Honesty, and Friendship, which only become stronger as times pass.

OSU History

The founding mothers of the OSU colony wanted to start a multicultural sorority at their campus for one sole purpose—diversity. As women of different cultures and ethnicities, they felt that it was their duty and goal to represent and educate others about her culture, heritage, and traditions in order to promote respect, awareness, dignity, understanding, and peace among all individuals. These ladies also wanted to create an outlet for the many minority young women of OSU to get involved with Greek life. This is achieved through active involvement in philanthropic and community service activities. As DPO at OSU, we will strive to be recognized as a diverse group, a contribution to the community, and an invaluable asset to social education.
