It is best to start looking for possible internships that you would be interested in around Winter Break. Most internship applications have a deadline in early spring (around March or April) and often you have to include more than a simple application. So it would be a good idea to start gathering reference letters from employers or professors in advance so that you do not have to try and get it all done in a week or so. While not all internships are paid if you can afford to do this it will still be a great advantage for you to get the experience. And even if you are not positive about your future career, an internship can help lead you in the right direction.

College Pro Painters Internship

  • College Pro is a paid internship that teaches you how to run a summer painting franchise. It is a business internship, but is open to all majors. The average manager in Oregon ran a 100k business last summer. Every year, College Pro chooses about 750 driven students to run their own business. The training and ongoing coaching the company provides is what has propelled College Pro's success for more than 30 years. Many of the successful managers of previous years have come from Oregon State University.
  • This opportunity gives students a chance to hold a high level of responsibility in a real world environment while still having the support of a large organization dedicated to the success of its people. This compliments the theories provided in a higher educational environment through real world application, greatly enhancing a students resume before ever leaving college. This internship greatly enhances the appeal of a resume.
  • Skills gained through the internship include Marketing, Hiring, Training, Priority Management, Financial Management, Scheduling, Customer Relations, Interviewing, Planning, Organization, People Management, Communication, Cash Flow, Coaching, Leadership, Selling, Accountability, Facilitating, and Motivating.

College Works Painting Internship

  • An internship available to all majors, CWP focuses on building management and marketing skills. All interns manage their own branch of CWP, and do everything from estimating homes to profit analysis projections. This is a very intensive internship, and requires a lot of time devoted to it during the winter, spring, and summer seasons. In specific, all interns are “branch managers” of CWP. All branch managers hire and manage a marketing crew, a paint crew, and are responsible for all of their clientèle. To make sure the internship is not too intensive, each branch manager is recruited by a district manager who will mentor them through the whole internship. The average branch manager made around $9000 in profit last year.

Sports Marketing Internship

  • The OSU sports marketing internship is part of Oregon State athletics. All events that happen during the year that should be recognized is what the interns do. But overall all the big sports for Oregon State has is what you will be working for. It is an experience and an awesome resume builder.
  • There are five different departments in the athletic department of Oregon State University in which you can obtain an internship. The internships are in the Ticket Office, Beaver Sports Properties, Event Management, Sports Information, and Sports Marketing. The interns play a huge part in the execution of athletic events. For Sports Marketing, interns are assigned at least two sports, football, and a project to work on throughout the year. Every intern must work football games, that is the only sport which requires all interns to be there. Sports Marketing is in charge of Fan Fair, which occurs three hours prior to game time. Fan Fair is geared towards kids, there are five or six inflatables (football kick, football toss, obstacle course, basketball toss, and a specialty inflatable) that they can play on or with. The interns are in charge of set up, running the event, and tear down. Then it is game time. All of the promotions, t-shirt tosses, and foam noodle distributions are because of us. The other sports are lower key when compared to football, but still lots of things are required for each sport. All in all, it is a good experience if you are interested in sports marketing for a career.

Another option for finding internships, is to go out into the community and find a business that primarily deals with what your degree is. Talk to whomever is in charge and ask them about creating an internship with them; letting them know what it is that you want to do with them. This way you can make the internship come to you and not have to wait to see something posted by another company that a lot of students are going to try to apply for.
