The original meal plan system was set so that those who had purchased a plan through UHDS would get half off prices at any dining center and anyone else would have to pay full price. Unfortunately, the "full price" was on the order of $10-15 for a average meal.
So UHDS changed the meal plan system. Prices are similar for those who have a plan (only 8% discount) and for those who don't. All of the prices were also lowered to a practical amount; unfortunately, most items are still unreasonably high compared to Fred Meyer or Winco. For example, a can of soup costs $.99 at Fred Meyer, and $2.49 on campus!
What is reasonable? Stir Fri!!! For $4.99, you receive a plate larger than most people can handle. There is a bar of vegetables that one can choose from, a choice of meat (chicken, beef, and occasionally shrimp), sauce (spicy teriyaki, teriyaki, orange mandarin, sweet and sour), and either rice or noodles.
